SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (RushPRNews)12/15/08— A survey of Illinois lawmakers shows strong support for impeaching Governor Rod Blagojevich if he doesn’t step down soon. Eighty percent of lawmakers responding to the survey said the Legislature should pursue impeachment quickly.
Many of the lawmakers who said they weren’t sure about impeachment or wouldn’t answer are senators. The Senate would decide whether to convict Blagojevich in an impeachment.
The survey by GateHouse News Service found a little less support for a special election to fill Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
About two-thirds of respondents support a special election.
Critics say it would take months and cost millions of dollars. They prefer to let a new governor make the decision.
