U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, the final resting place of his slain brothers – President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy.
More than 300,000 people, including veterans from all the nation’s wars, two former presidents, prominent explorers and other historical figures, are buried at the cemetery, located just a short distance from Washington D.C.
At the site of President Kennedy’s grave is the eternal flame where three other Kennedys are buried: the president’s wife Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, their infant son and a stillborn daughter. Robert Kennedy is buried nearby.
Prior to be being laid to rest, Edward Kennedy will lie in repose at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. A funeral will take place at Boston’s Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica.
