Already a Canadian television star and recent nominee for a 2014 LEO award for her supporting role in APTN’s Blackstone, singer-songwriter Andrea Menard has set her sights on expanding her musical career. With a catalogue of musical releases including 2002’s The Velvet Devil, 2005’s Simple Steps, and 2009’s Sparkle, Menard is poised to elevate audiences and her musical career with her latest offering called LIFT.
Aside from acting award nominations and birthing CDs, the LIFT launch date also coincides with the debut of Menard’s symphony show, “I Am Andrea Menard”, with conductor Charles T. Cozens and the Regina Symphony Orchestra on May 3rd, 2014.
LIFT is a very special project for Menard and this uplifting collection of 12 original songs written and produced by Menard and Edmonton-based producer Robert Walsh, marks their fourth collaboration together. The album is about beauty and love and was conceived with the desire to bring a positive message to the world.
A successful Indiegogo fundraising campaign supported by Menard’s passionate and enthusiastic fan base, raised $12,000 towards the album’s production and release. She describes the songs as “good medicine”, and they once again showcase the unique musical chemistry between herself and Walsh.
Recorded at Unity Gain Productions, a straw bale facility built on a beautiful oasis in rural Manitoba, LIFT, released and promoted through Real World Artist Management, captures the spirit and atmosphere of the sessions. The raw emotion and power of Menard’s vocals is palpable on this recording. Whether it’s the high energy and joyous expression in ‘Let’s Sing a New Song,” the inspirational message in the title track, the hints of a Celtic muse and calming meditative qualities of “Breathing Easy and “Beautiful Balance, or the haunting ancestral tribute in “Four Directions Prayer,” Menard’s hopeful message rings clear.

“If you haven’t heard of her, prepare to hear a lot about her from anyone who is lucky enough to see her in action… Her warm, burnished alto at times recalls Linda Ronstadt or Patsy Cline and she can sing an a cappella tune like The Mother Song with an instrumental purity that keeps the audience riveted and utterly silent. But she can also belt and wail a bluesy tune with roof-raising power”
~Steven Mazey, The Ottawa Citizen
“Métis singer, songwriter and actor Menard re-invents herself …with Simple Steps. Sentimentality is evenly balanced with grace and substance. The album also delivers what every good songwriter should strive for – a sense of time and place.” ~Greg Quill, Toronto Star
