Travellers Want Tips About Tipping Shows Carrentals.co.uk New Survey

New survey of more than 1,000 travellers reveals tips on tipping is more important than local laws and local events

Car hire comparison site Carrentals.co.uk has carried out new research which found that travellers from the UK would prefer advice about tipping when using a taxi or visiting a restaurant abroad over detail about things like legal issues, and even local events.

Throughout the car hire UK sector more than 1,000 people took part in the new survey, which was designed to determine what information travellers wanted more of. One of the most sought after areas of information amongst these participants was tipping etiquette, reports Carrentals.co.uk.

Despite there being countries which are home to a culture without tipping, there has in recent times become an increasingly large number of countries which have an expectation to tip. This expectation can however often leave travellers feeling intimidated or awkward as to how much to tip and when, especially in cases where a ‘service charge’ is automatically added to their bill.

Carrentals.co.uk Managing Director, Gareth Robinson commented, “It is very common that regardless of where you are travelling to, you are usually expected to leave a tip, and when you are unsure of the acceptable amount to leave, it can leave many people feeling uncomfortable. In the USA for instance, they have a strong tipping culture, which often means we will be expected to leave high tips. This amount in the USA in particular is often higher than we would usually do so, I myself have left a tip of 15% and even had the waiter ask me in a confused manner if my meal was OK.

“Travellers will be able to relax, avoid any awkwardness and overall have a much more pleasant holiday, if they know more about what to do in places like hotels, restaurants and when using taxis. From travellers telling us that they want more detail about tipping, over information surrounding local customs and rules, just shows how much this issue affects their holiday.
