Global warming an ‘hysterical psuedo-religion, says Sammy Wilson, Ireland’s environment minister
by Dan Bloom
According to Ireland’s environment minister Sammy Wilson, green activists around the world are using climate change as a “hysterical psuedo-religion”. Wilson says that while he believes in climate change and global warming, he believs they are occurring naturally and are not caused by human activities, such as driving cars and burning too much fossil fuel worldwide.
“Resources should be used to adapt to the consequences of climate change, rather than King Canute-style vainly trying to stop it,” Wilson says. “The tactics used by the ‘green gang’ in Britain is to label anyone who dares disagree with their view of climate change as some kind of nutcase who denies scientific fact.”
Wilson further says that while he accepts that climate change can occur, he does not believe the cause has been identified yet.
“Reasoned debate must replace the scaremongering of the green climate alarmists,” he reasons.
In response, John Woods of Friends of the Earth said Wilson was “like a cigarette salesman denying that smoking causes cancer”. “Ironically, if we listen to him Northern Ireland will suffer economically as we are left behind by smarter regions who are embracing the low carbon economy of the future.”
Wilson was appointed as environment minister in June. Since he does not accept that climate change and global warming are man-made, then imagine what his reaction would be to the concept of polar cities for survivors of global warming in the distant future will be? He would probably say that the very idea of polar cities as an adaptation strategy for future survivors of climate change is silly and ridiculous.
Away from politics, Wilson, 55, is a keen gardener and motorbike enthusiast and is said to have an interest in animals and birds. So he’s not anti-environment, and he’s not anti-green, and he’s not a bad man. He’s just a little confused about the causes of climate change and global warming. Perhaps he should sit down with Dr James Lovelock in Cornwall and find out just what is causing climate change.
But as silly as Wilson is, he’s not as bad as U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, 44, current governor of Alaska, who believes that global warming is a hoax. Just what America needs: another politician with her eyes closed.
The fact is that global warming is real, very real. And although I cannot see the future, I can say with probing certainty, that the very existence of the human species is at stake if we don’t wake up soon and put a stop to our car culture, our Happy Motoring era, our fossil fuel era. By the year 2500, perhaps sooner, most human beings who are still alive will be living in so-called Lovelock Retreats in the northern regions of the world, and the world population will have dropped from 10 billion to just 200,000 souls eking out a sad existence in these desperate safe refuges for climate refugees.
Of course, dear reader, you don’t believe me. That’s okay. I don’t really want you to believe me. But please listen to your elders — Lovelock, Monbiot, Pearce, Hansen, Flannery, Lynas — because they are trying to sound the alarm. Mrs. Palin would like to shut off the alarm bell, and Sammy Wilson, well, maybe he is just a tad confused still.
The greens will wake him up, you can count on that!
