LOS ANGELES (RPRN/HT) 5/21/09 – Chace Crawford will be going from a seminal teen drama to a seminal teen musical. Us Magazine has confirmed the “Gossip Girl” actor will be taking on Kevin Bacon’s role in the upcoming remake of 80s big-screen staple “Footloose.”

The film, which follows a teenage boy’s struggle to introduce dancing into a rural town where it has been banned, was first made in 1984 and was spun off into a Broadway musical in 1998. “High School Musical’s” Zac Efron, who starred in the 2007 remake of 1988 hit “Hairspray,” was set to tackle the role, but dropped out of the project earlier this year.

Crawford, 23, is best known for his “Gossip Girl” portrayal of Nate Archibald, a sympathetic young socialite living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The flagship weekly drama of the CW Network recently concluded its second season and is currently filming its third on the streets of New York.
