September Art Workshops with Santa Cruz Local Artist, Toaa Dallo

Toaa Dallo, a Santa Cruz local artist, announces a new series of Saturday art workshops and Paint Along events for September — all conveniently located in the light-filled classroom space at Palace Art in Capitola. The first workshop is to take place Saturday, September 2. The workshops welcome all-level of artistry, even beginners and at the end of the day, the students get to bring a completed piece of art.
Island Sunset
Saturday, September 2, at Palace Art in Capitola (11 am to 6 pm)The warm glowing light and dramatic colors of an island sunset sky are great fun to paint. In this special one-day workshop, you will learn about composition, color theory, and contrast. It’s the perfect introduction to painting and a great refresher course for more experienced painters. And you’ll finish the day with a beautiful painting.
Elephants
Saturday, September 9, at Palace Art in Capitola (11 am to 6 pm)Elephants have a majestic beauty, and they’re a captivating subject for art making. In this special one-day workshop, you’ll learn all about painting basic shapes, proportions, light sources, and shadows. And you’ll create a unique work of art to bring home with you at the end of the day.
Vincent Van Gogh
Saturday, September 16 (11 am to 6 pm)The passionate paintings of Vincent Van Gogh offer a great lesson in style and technique, form and color. Our subject for this particular Paint Along event will be Van Gogh well-known “Wheat Fields at Auvers” painted in 1890. Join us and paint your version of this beautiful pastoral landscape by one of the world’s most beloved artists.
California Landscape
Saturday, September 23, at Palace Art in Capitola (11 am to 6 pm)American Impressionists often found their inspiration in the California landscape. Our subject for this painting workshop is Edgar Payne’s gorgeous “Eucalyptus Grove” from 1908. It’s a great lesson in the dynamic use of color and creative brushwork.
Native American Portrait
Saturday, September 30, at Palace Art in Capitola (11 am to 6 pm)Portraiture is storytelling, and our subject for this special Paint Along workshop is “Portrait of a Native American,” by Frederic Remington, a celebrated painter of the American Old West. It’s dramatic and tranquil at the same time, featuring a compelling narrative presentation and striking colors.

No prior painting experience is necessary. These workshops are designed for beginners, and for people who love to make art and want to learn more about it. You can do it! I
