As Games get ever closer leading website advises people to book well ahead
Online car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk is warning people to book car hire well in advance if they are travelling to the Olympic Games this summer. The website’s latest figures show a marked rise in advance bookings for car hire at the time of the 2012 Olympic Games this summer.
The website’s figures reveal that four times the number of people have made car hire bookings between 20 July and 12 August this year compared 2011. 40% of these bookings will be collected from Gatwick or Heathrow airport.
Carrentals.co.uk says that July 20 and 21 are the most popular dates for rental bookings, with the Olympics opening ceremony taking place on July 27. The site says that travellers have booked rental cars for an average period of between 10 and 12 days, with 50% of these reservations set for collection at Gatwick or Heathrow.
Carrentals.co.uk Managing Director, Gareth Robinson, says: “More and more people are booking car hire around the time of the Olympics this year, and we expect to see the numbers go on rising. Tens of thousands of people are headed to the UK for the Olympics and there will certainly be additional strain on the country’s public transport networks.”
