A new survey conducted by leading money-saving website DiscountVouchers.co.uk has revealed some interesting spending habits at large in the UK. The poll has shown that a massive 25% of UK consumers have no knowledge of their partner’s earnings and salary.
The website’s poll revealed that a huge 27.25% of Brits don’t know what their significant other gets paid, while twice as many women as men keep personal, secret bank accounts – the poll showed 8% versus 4% in this area.
Women were revealed by the DiscountVouchers.co.uk poll to be more dishonest with money than men, with 43% admitting that they have lied about the cost of a new outfit. In contrast 17% of men said they had lied to a partner about the cost of an outfit, while both genders confessed that it was guilt which caused them to do this.
The voucher codes website poll further found that 40% of people read their partner’s personal bank and credit card statements and letters, while almost nearly 10% admitted to never even looking at this kind of financial correspondence at all.
Psychologist Dr Penny Goldsbrough commented: “This level of duplicity and lying is more often than not the result of low self esteem and fear of the unknown. Not trusting one’s other half really can quite quickly lead to things like looking at their bank statements or squirreling money away in secret bank accounts.”
Dr Goldsbrough continues: “Lots of women follow their mothers in buying new dresses secretly and keeping the cost to themselves – and many people really do feel guilty about spending money yet still continue to do just that.”
