Awaken Cinema Circle Series Comes To Winnipeg

The Awaken Cinema Circle invites you to experience a single event that just may awaken the stranger within you. The Awaken Cinema Circle will combine a series of eight separate transformative learning film-based forums into one single event debuting October 2011 in Winnipeg, and will dare the participants to envision, believe and create a new vision of themselves and the world around them. A free two-hour introduction session will also be held in October.

The challenges and complexity we face in our personal lives and relationships, in our families, in our professional lives and in our organizations are of a different order and magnitude than ever before. The awaken Cinema circle was created in response to the magnitude of these paradigms.

“There has to be another way’ is a popular motto in life today”, says Donald Gordon Carty, creator of the awaken concept. “We get to this slogan when things simply don’t work out as well as we want them to. In our personal lives, we may discover that life is flying by and, we are just going in endless circles. Abraham Maslow believed that sooner or later mature people come to a point where the question becomes something like, ‘is that all there is?’ My experience suggests that most fail to recognize their own birthright and find themselves trapped by beliefs that limit their personal possibilities. There comes a time where it is necessary to reexamine our beliefs, reframe our possibilities and refire our minds. This course is designed to assist and facilitate that alternative way of thinking for all who choose to attend.”

The focus of this eight week course is on the discovery of self and the authentic search for meaning in one’s own life and advances a multi-faceted approach to learning and creativity, by combining uplifting and sometimes spiritually challenging films with theory, personal experience, self-reflection, teaching, experiential learning activities, exercises, and group discussion. Most importantly, you will be able to identify factors in your own life that either promote or inhibit positive growth and change.

The mission of the Awaken Cinema Circle is to foster understanding and appreciation of the diversity of the human experience, to facilitate self-understanding, to introduce options for action plans, to seed future personal development and spiritual growth, to educate, normalize, reframe, and expand ideas and create community among the participants.

Originally launched in Atlanta Georgia in the spring of 2007, and in Oromocto New Brunswick in 2009, Lila H. a participant of an Awaken event said, “I have heard many times that ‘you can change your life by changing your thoughts and your mental habits,’ but I never really stopped to consider what that really meant. Never did I expect to wake up one morning and discover that there was someone to help me see my life from an entirely new perspective. Thank you Donald.”

“I can’t imagine anybody participating and not feeling changed in a deeply personal way,” says Donald Gordon Carty, author and instructor of the course. “This is going to be a remarkable life changing event for anyone interested in the idea of the mind and how it affects their reality. The awaken Cinema circle will provide a unique educational experience for adults.”

The eight-session film and discussion course will be held on eight consecutive Tuesday or Thursday mornings or evenings beginning in late October 2011 at 201 Portage Ave, Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. Choose from 9:30am to 12:00 noon sessions or the 6:30pm to 9:00pm sessions. Each class is limited to 8 participants.
