“Sunshine,†“The Departed†take WGA Prizes on Busiest Award Night Ever
HOLLYWOOD, CA (rushprnews) 02/11/07 — In a lively award night that saw the Dixie Chicks top the Grammys and “The Queen†crowned at the British Film Academy awards, another prize drama played out as “The Departed†and “Little Miss Sunshine†took top honors at the Writers Guild Awards.
Setting up the final showdown for Best Picture at the Oscars, the leading contenders each won a WGA award as William Monaham took adapted screenplay bows for penning the Martin Scorsese-directed “The Departed†and Michael Arndt was feted for best original script on “Sunshine.â€
The bi-coastal awards for writing achievements for screen, television and radio were hosted By Tina Fey at New York’s Hudson Theatre and Robert Wuhl in L.A. at the Century Plaza Hotel. East Coast presenters included Alec Baldwin, Matthew Broderick, Griffin Dunne, Harvey Fierstein, John Leguizamo, Sarah Jessica Parker and Andy Rooney. The Left Coast party included presenters Morgan Freeman, Antwone Fisher, Robert Towne.
Writers for “The Sopranos,†“The Office†and “Ugly Betty†took top TV honors in the drama, comedy and new series categories.
