Google Announces Top 10 Gainers for the Week Ending April 7th
Mountain View, CA(rushprnews) April 10, 2007- Seasonal sports were on the minds of Google searchers this past week, as greens fans followed the annual [masters] golf tourney. It got underway Thursday with a tee-off by legend Arnold Palmer. And the baseball season got underway as the Major League struck a deal to keep its “Extra Innings” package of out-of-market games on cable – a deal that reports say is likely to allow [mlb extra innings] to be available in some 40 million homes when it launches in 2009. Wrestling also garnered searches on the occasion of [wrestlemania 23], a large live and Pay-Per-View weekend fest in Detroit.Meanwhile the [pet food recall] expanded to include various dry food brands and even certain dog biscuits. Confusion about what caused the contamination of the food (originally thought to be rat poison, then a plastic chemical) sent people searching for more information. As always, celebrities create search opportunities. This week grizzled veteran [keith richards] got attention when rumors circulated that he had admitted to snorting his father’s ashes mixed with cocaine. (Richards’ denial of these rumors likely piqued interest further.) And star of “The Hills” [lauren conrad] denied rumors that a “sex tape” exists. The young actress [rose mcgowan] got generally good reviews for her apparently memorable turn as a hard-hearted go-go dancer in “Grindhouse,” described as the “cheerfully reprehensible ode to ’70s exploitation movies” (Ty Burr, Boston Globe). Last week’s Will Ferrell opener [blades of glory] is still of interest, as are two of the week’s seasonal markers: [good friday] is the day Christians reflect on the death of Jesus Christ, and for children, the [easter bunny] manifests in Sunday celebrations.
For breaking news and obscure information alike, people around the world search on Google. What follows is a summary of Google Zeitgeist results for the top gainers on Google.com, when comparing search queries that have risen by a significant percentage for the week of April 1-7, 2007.
