Google Announces Top 10 Gainers for the Week Ending April 14th

Mountain View,CA(rushprnews) April 18, 2007 -Topping out this week’s Zeitgeist was CBS Radio host Don [Imus], whose on-air provocative remark about the Rutgers women’s basketball team elicited much criticism and national debate. Searchers watched the drama unfold as Imus apologized as his daily morning radio show was suspended and then cancelled.

Reverend [al sharpton] also grabbed some of the Zeitgeist spotlight as he debated the shock jock on his own radio show, and called for Imus to be fired. Also piquing the curiosity of people searching on Google this week was trail-blazing writer [kurt vonnegut], who died at the age of 84 after a fall in his Manhattan apartment. The ongoing saga of the late Anna Nicole Smith continued to fascinate, as a paternity test confirmed that the father of her daughter, Dannielynn, was photojournalist [larry birkhead]. News also surfaced this week that the story of Smith’s life would be made into a movie starring singer-dancer [willa ford]. Other celebrity queries zeroed in on [katie price], the British “glamour model” and star of a reality show, whose ongoing public feud with Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham escalated, much to the pleasure of the Brit tabs.More seriously, [darfur] was brought to our attention this week: pressure is bearing down from such public figures as director Steven Spielberg and UNICEF ambassador Mia Farrow to get the Chinese government to speak out against genocidal conditions in the Sudan, particularly in light of China’s first-ever role as host for the upcoming Olympics.

Searchers also looked for information on calendar dates: the meaning of (or possibly how to get through) [Friday the 13th], and the upcoming [earth day] (April 22). And late in the week a new name, [Shaha Riza], rose in the ranks of queries. She is the romantic partner of World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz; news stories are reporting that he arranged for her to receive a generous pay raise in a new job.

For breaking news and obscure information alike, people around the world search on Google. What follows is a summary of Google Zeitgeist results for the top gainers on, when comparing search queries that have risen by a significant percentage for the week of April 8-14, 2007.
