Four Executive Orders aim at putting an end to torture and for the humane treatment of prisoners

WASHINGTON (RushPRnews) 01/22/-09–In one of his four executive orders distancing himself from former President Bush’s policies, President Obama has issues an executive order ordering the closing within a year of the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison camp, and an outright ban on torture that will effectively end the CIA’s controversial interrogations methods.
The four orders are:
the closing of Guantanamo Bay prison camp;
to close what has been named CIA “black site†prisons across the globe;
to develop and implement a detention policy special task force in collaboration with Defense Secretary Robert Gates;
the fourth orders all US personnel to follow to the order of the law the rules established in the Army Field Manual for the humane treatment of prisoners.
It is not clear if the taskforce main role will be an advisory one on policy moving forward, or if it will also investigate the potential illegality of past prisoner treatment. Cuba President Raul Castro has asked that the land be returned to its “rightful owners, the people of Cuba.”
