LONDON, UK (rushprnews)April 12, 2007 – Al Gore’s global event released the locations and U.S. and UK lineups for the upcoming Live Earth concerts today, which will take place on every continent except for Antarctica on 7/7/07. The Material Girl will join veteran rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers and other top names in music including seldom seen acts such as Duran Duran and Genesis for the London leg of a global series of Live Earth concerts.
After being kicked off of the congressional lawn by senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Gore found another venue steeped in rock and historical lore for the U.S. concert; Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
With a U.S. lineup featuring a reunited Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Dave Mathews Band, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Fall Out Boy and Alicia Keys plus among others Gore will have ample opportunity to fill the second largest professional football stadium in the country.
The largest crowd to ever attend an event at Giants Stadium was 82,948, as Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass during a rainstorm on October 5, 1995. Gore will have his work cut out if he plans to eclipse the late Pope John Paul ll, however if he does it will be fitting that it is in the name of a global threat to humanity.
Live Earth is a 24-hour concert staged across six continents with the goal of raising worldwide awareness of the dangers and solutions to Global Warming. The telecast is expected to 2 billion people. The concerts are to be a “green†example for other music festivals taking measures such as eco-friendly electricity, sustainable lighting and carbon-neutral travel.
“We hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign, giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis,†said Gore.
All proceeds from the concerts will benefit the Alliance for Climate Protection, The Climate Group, Stop Climate Chaos and other international NGOs.
Live Earth Venues are:
US: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
UK: Wembley Stadium, London
Brazil: Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro
South Africa: The Cradle of Human Kind, Maropeng near Johannesburg
Japan: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo
China: Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai
Australia: Aussie Stadium, Moore Park, Sydney
Originally organizers had suggested that a concert would be held on Antarctica as well, as an act of global symbolism, however according to information released today there is no mention of any Live Earth events scheduled on Antarctica.
