LOS ANGELES (RUSHPRNEWS) 7/21/08 – Britney Spears has finally put an end to the constant trips to court and legal wrangling over the living arrangements of her two young sons. Under the terms of a settlement reached between the pop princess and her ex-husband and former backup dancer Kevin Federline, Spears conceded full custody of her children in exchange for three visits a week.
“This has been a long ordeal, and to have that over is something that makes him extremely happy,” Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said in a statement. Spears’ attorney, Laura Wasser, also put a positive spin on the situation, telling the Associated Press the outcome was “a win for the family.”
The agreement pre-empted the trial that was to occur next month. It specified that two of the three weekly meetings could be sleepovers to start, with the potential for more. Both Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, have been staying with their father since Spears’ highly publicized hospitalizations and subsequent mental evaluations in January.
Unlike most celebrity custody battles, the former spouses and their legal teams have acted cordially during the past several months’ proceedings. In May, Kaplan lauded Spears for her “progress in structure and stability.”
