HOLLYWOOD (RushPRnews)12/09/08-Great, great news for Dark Knight fans who aren’t too engrossed in their new Blu-ray DVDs to pay attention to the Oscar race. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard’s score for the movie is officially back in contention for the Academy Award, after being ruled out on November 10 because too many people contributed to the music.
What changed their mind? No telling. The Academy is unpredictable that way. All they know is they sent out a press release to some folks, including In Contention’s Kris Tapley, and told them that Howard and Zimmer would be there on Oscar night so long as the music branch nominates them. They’re by no means a lock, unfortunately– the score for The Dark Knight was fairly unconventional, and some of the key scenes– like the tractor-trailer flip– contained no music at all. I’d nominate them in a heartbeat if you let me, but as with everything in the Oscar race every year, nothing is ever set in stone. But now at least the playing field is more level.
