Costner Says Swing Vote Better than Mummy
By Ane Howard
HOLLYWOOD, CA (RUSHPRNEWS) 8/6/08 – The “Swing Vote” starring Kevin Costner as Bud, a typical American, operates on the premise that a single person could determine the entire result of an election.
Delivering at the end a speech worthy of a Jimmy Stewart, Costner who revealed to HT, that he wrote it, the film surprises its audience to the end. As he puts, ” We got more action than the Mummy”.
“Swing Vote” delivers the difficult feat of an inspiring film and thought-provoking first rate satire.
Playing opposite Costner are The Candidates, even in Hollywood numbering at two, played to perfection by Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer, with Nathan Lane and Stanley Tucci as their campaign managers. But stealing the show is Madeline Carroll, who plays Bud’s precocious 12-year old daughter, and sets in motion a series of catalytic event which places her father in this position of power.
The race is close, fiction imitating reality, is so close that Bud becomes a national figure as the candidates grovel for his vote, which he shamelessly exploit to the growing disgust of his daughter. As Costner told HT, “Swing Vote is not a PSA, it’s even better than that. It’s about a man and his fifth grader.” And the realization that every vote counts, and the legacy we leave behind.
Coming up for Costner is “New Daughter”, a film that he describes as “scary”, even though Costner doesn’t like “to be scared”, he accepted the role because of its good script.
