Robert Diamond’s latest venture is now the number one destination for Broadway lovers with members in the tens of thousands
New York, NY (rushprnews) 01/09/2006 – – While still in college, he had already achieved webmaster and editor-in-chief status, therefore it wasn’t much of a surprise when FOLIO awarded New York born and raised Robert Diamond, who was then only 21, with its Thirty Under 30 Award. This award from a magazine whose focus is magazine management is given to the top 30 industry professionals under the age of 30, listing some of the most innovative thinkers and leaders in the industry who are effecting change and shaping the future. Since receiving this Award, Robert Diamond’s recognition as a shaker and mover has been firmly established, mainly from bringing together the world of entertainment and technology with various successful ventures such as BroadwayWorld.com. Diamond is also the founding editor of ColdFusion Developer’s Journal, and the ColdFusion Editor for MX Developer’s Journal and a contributor to SYS-CON.com.
“In 2003, I launched BroadwayWorld.com. For me, bringing together Broadway and my skills as a webmaster and an editor was a natural direction to take “, explains Diamond, “I knew that there was a gap to fill out there, a lack of easily available Broadway information and how frustrating this could be for a Broadway lover and I just went for it. Within months of our launch, our visitors were amounting in the thousands and are now in the millions.”
BroadwayWorld.com as a new media business model with an ever growing advertising revenue, bridges the world of entertainment and technology with its main focus being information and news. Now in its third year and with over one million visitors a month, Diamond has proven that innovative thinking and passion can result in a successful venture. BroadwayWorld.com is expanding its “insider access” via BroadwayWorld.com. TV, including footage from the hottest shows as well as proprietary programming. The network social service message boards already have tens of thousands of new members and growing daily. Presently, BroadwayWorld.com’s front page is undergoing an overhaul, making it easier for site visitors to find what they are looking for amongst the site’s several million pages of information. The main page provides a glimpse into what is happening at any given moment on Broadway including all the hottest stars, breaking news and insider information that visitors cannot get from any other sources.
One may wonder, how did a passion for Broadway shows all start for this Internet buff? Quite simply, Diamond was introduced to the theatre in junior high by his parents who took him to see shows such as Les Miserables and Sunset Boulevard, but his passion was born when he saw Phantom of the Opera.
No doubt, Michael Crawford, the star of the Phantom of The Opera was where it started, but that quickly turned into a gateway into the entire world of theatre. “As my interest in theatre continued to expand, I began to pay more and more attention to the existing theatre sites out there, some of which are great, but all of which are very ‘Web 1.0” said Diamond. “I saw the room to create a next-generation theatre web site, which brought the audience in; together with the entire community to create what I hoped would be a destination for all things Broadway.”
Diamond has stated that amongst the things of which he is the most proud are its consistently sold-out Joe’s Pub concert series and Standing Ovations benefit concerts. These events benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and are fulfilling on a personal level by supporting the community that he feels has given him so much.
According to Diamond, “Launching BroadwayWorld.com was a bit of an uphill battle since I was holding a day job, but soon I realized that the very best approach to succeed is to surrender oneself with strong collaborators as I have done. If you are bringing in the big guns to fight it out, the battle is greatly diminished. We have the best interns, photographers and reporters in the business collaborating with BroadwayWorld.com, and the results speak for themselves”. With this latest endeavour, Diamond’s goal was to entertain and inform, and educate its readers, and he has, without a doubt, succeeded in reaching his goals.
