BELTSVILLE, MD (RPRN) 07/28/10 — Traditionally, probiotics have not had a long shelf life, some only lasting a few weeks or occasionally a few months. Many of the probiotic products such as yogurts, drinks and some dietary supplements, require refrigeration in order to keep the bacteria strains alive even for short periods of time. Vidazorb® chewable probiotics, however, were developed with the goal of achieving a long shelf life with no refrigeration. The motivation for this is explained by E. Frank Hodal, Jr., founder and CEO, Little Calumet Holdings, LLC, makers of Vidazorb®, “I wanted to produce a product that could easily be transported under extreme conditions to the far flung corners of the globe where people are in the greatest need. Areas of the world where there is no running water or electricity, let alone refrigeration.”
To achieve this was no small feat. The company undertook in-depth research and development to discover a way to keep probiotic strains alive and effective for five years, at room temperature. Initial testing validated two years and now further empirical results have confirmed three years and counting.
