Top British scientist says New Zealand should become "Lifeboat" for global warming survivors
Move Over New Zealanders, Here We Comeby Dan Bloom
NEW ZEALAND(RUSHPRNEWS)10/25/08-- Leading British scientist James Lovelock said in a recent radio interview in New Zealand that New Zealand is wasting its time trying to pass an Emissions Trading Scheme, or ETS for short. He said on the Radio New Zealand program during a 4-minute interview from his home in Cornwall, England that New Zealanders should put their sights on thinking of their island nation as a lifeboat for survivors of global waming events in the distant future.
"I think the role of New Zealand, similar to that of the UK and other island nations, is to be a lifeboat, because the world may get almost intolerable during the coming century," Lovelock said. "And you see that happening already in Australia -- the desert is spreading and things just won't grow. And island nations like New Zealand will be spared that kind of damage."
"New Zealand could lead the world by being the perfect 'lifeboat' and taking that just right number of people that you can support and feed and the rest of it, and doing it building proper cities," Lovelock added. "That's going to take the money and the effort. Trying to stop global warming is almost a certain waste of time."
Lovelock, of course, is one of those scientists who believes global warming is now irreversible, and that nothing can prevent large parts of the planet becoming too hot to inhabit, or sinking underwater, resulting in mass migration, famine and epidemics. Britain is going to become a "lifeboat" for refugees from mainland Europe. He has repeated this warning to reporters on several continents and now he brings the same message to New Zealanders.
Lifeboat Britain. Lifeboat New Zealand. Lifeboat Alaska. Lifeboat Russia. Get ready.

Lovelock must be clinging to straws considering the Earth has cooled for the last 10 years, and has stubbornly refused to take any notice of the IPCC temperature predictions, or the 5% increase in CO2. Now that Arctic ice has returned to what we consider normal levels, Antarctic ic is at the highest level for at least 30 years, any sensible person has to doubt that anthropogenic global warming has any validity.

There is a silver bullet solution to global warming; I would like to announce the arrival of a clean, cheap, abundant, and portable form of energy production that will make burning fossil fuel obsolete. Wind a solenoidal coil around a magnet, and apply electricity. The magnetic field is amplified, and the magnetic gradient can be exploited to yield more electricity than was used powering the solenoidal coil. A private California company called Magnetic Power Inc ( www.magneticpowerinc.com ) exceeded breakeven (i.e. produced more electricity than it used) with a prototype in late 2004. I am NOT associated with MPI, but instead am a global warming (and bioterrorism) internet activist ( www.myspace.com/dobermanmacleod ).

This is interesting. The logic behind the most recent alarmism had broken down to one bad year in Arctic Sea Ice extent. The sharp pullback that we experienced in the early fall of 2007 had all of the warmers declaring that the disaster would be upon us even more quickly than originally predicted. But the meltoff of 2007 has been replaced by a 2008 early fall where the sea ice extent is very normal by comparison with other years in the recent past, and that is about 25% larger than 2007. So now we have: 11 years of no global warming 5 years of no ocean warming 3 years of no rise in the sea level Arctic sea ice extent has turned the corner Antarctic sea ice extent turned the corner a couple of years ago. But still this warmer has found one data point to be desperate about - the dry spell in Australia. Warming theory says that the majority of warming will come about as a result of positive feedback. And this positive feedback will be caused by more moisture in the air. So while there might be a few places on the planet that would get less moisture, according to the theory, on balance, the globe should get more moisture. If this is the case, how do we get to the conclusion that only islands will be liveable because of the drought. How does Lovelock extrapolate from Austrailia to the entire world. Makes no sense to me.
