Microsoft Tops Best Workplaces List for Europe

PARIS,(RUSHPRNEWS) 05/30/2008 — The Financial Times published the Great Place to Work Institute's annual analysis of Europe's best employers. Consistently near the top of the list year after year, Microsoft was ranked the best European workplace among companies with more than 500 employees.

Cited for its open culture, responsive and accessible management, and technically advanced facilities, Microsoft was named the top European workplace today. The company was also recognised for the direct investments it makes in its employees, providing regular training opportunities and supporting flexible work modes to enhance work-life balance, for example.

First-place honours extend to 14 of the company's European subsidiary operations: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

Jan Muehlfeit, Microsoft's chairman for Europe, applauded the news. "Microsoft is a company that was built on innovation and individual initiative, and that creative energy continues to pervade our culture. Ranking number one among large European companies is fantastic validation that we're doing the right things to keep our people engaged and satisfied in their work — and that bodes well for the long-term mutual success of Microsoft and its employees."

The league table is generated each year by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and management consultancy. Workplaces are rated based on the results of national studies that survey employees directly and also audit company managers across each country.

The world's leading software company has had operations in Europe since 1982, when it opened its first European subsidiary in the UK. Today Microsoft employs more than 16,000 people in 64 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
