Posh Gets an Encore - Everybody Hates Her but So What! This is Hollywood!

Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham will host NBC Comedies Thurs with Posh Show Re-run
Critical scorn and mixed win aside, NBC gives her another go

HOLLYWOOD, CA (rushprnews) July 19, 2007 -– Just in case she hadn’t offended enough critics and viewers, NBC will re-air her special on Thursday night with lead-in hosting moments and promos on the network’s top comedies “The Office,” “Scrubs” and others on July 19.

“Victoria Beckham: Coming to America” lost to a repeat in total viewers (4.9 million) when aired this week, though it narrowly won its time slot with 2.2 rating. Critics across the country savagely drubbed the one hour special on her shopping , sun-bathing and drinking with girlfriends in heels and full makeup, being constantly bitchy and going to the DMV with comments such as “like watching mould grow on cheese,” to “condescending and relentlessly self-promoting,” “an orgy of self-indulgence,” and “how stupid do they think we are?”

Mighty stupid apparently as the Posh Show will be re-run after NBC’s most popular comedies, even though they cut her six-show series to a one-hour special due to “lack of material.” Posh told Hollywood Today earlier this week that the show was dry Brit wit, and she’s not really not like that. Blogs were even crueler.

Good enough for NBC as the swarm of hate reviews from critics, combined with a mixed win/loss in the ratings brought enough attention that the peacock network is allowing her to “provide commentary about her life in America featuring clips from her recent special, while she takes viewers through two hours of critically acclaimed comedy starting with “My Name Is Earl” at 8 p.m. ET, followed by “30 Rock” at 8:30 p.m. ET, leading into “The Office” at 9:00 p.m. ET and ending with “Scrubs” at 9:30 p.m. ET.”

Though the network came in third that night, NBC noticed a 29 percent increase on the network’s 18-49 average in the time period this summer and a 57 percent jump in the slot week-to-week from re-runs.

The special is produced by 19 Entertainment, a fully owned subsidiary of CKX, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKXE). Simon Fuller (”American Idol”), Kim Fuller (”Tracey Takes On”) and Mike Nichols (”High School Reunion”) are the executive producers.
